The Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3 took place in Clearwater on November 14th, challenging the passion, determination and endurance of 1,438 triathletes competing for a $90,000 purse. Presented by Ford, the 2009 Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3 takes place Saturday, November 14, with participants swimming, biking and running 70.3 miles through Clearwater and its surrounding areas.
Pinellas County traffic will be impacted by the Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3 on Saturday, November 14th – race day.
Throughout the county, many lane and road closures for the Ironman races will begin at 5 a.m., however Clearwater Beach road closures will begin at 3 a.m., and drivers will not be permitted to travel south of the roundabout due to closures on Coronado Drive and South Gulfview Boulevard.

High School Football Team Clearwater Academy Knights to Play in State Championship

The Clearwater Academy Knights 6 man tackle football team is going to the State Championship this Saturday, November 14th 2009 at 7:30 p.m. In only their second season the Knights have risen to the top of the league and are going into the championship undefeated with a record of 12 straight wins.
The Tampa Bay Lightning will be heating up the ice this hockey season at the St Pete Times Forum in Channelside, Tampa.

The Clearwater Super Boat National Championships of the Super Boat Racing Series took over the city for the weekend of October 2nd – 4th.
On Friday, Coachman Park was transformed into “Race Village,” hosting the race’s dry pits, and where the public had a chance to meet the drivers and see the boats before the races. On Saturday afternoon, practice runs were held in advance of the races, followed by a concert and fireworks display on Clearwater Beach 
that evening. The races themselves took place on Sunday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on a 5.3 mile race course beginning off Pier 60, extending north along Clearwater Beach, and looping back. An estimated 20,000 spectators lined the beach, and more than 1,200 boats of all sizes crowded the 2.5 mile stretch alongside the course.

The official senior tour of the LPGA, the The Legends Tour , will play its first major championship this fall at the Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club from November 20th to 22nd. The Legends Tour is comprised of the greatest female golfers of all time. The contest features a $300,000 purse.
The Tour has more than 100 members, including nine LPGA and World Golf Hall of Fame members, and its players have over 600 LPGA Tour victories and 55 major championships.
