But the Sunscreen Film Festival still focuses on strengthening local talent. This year was the first year they tried their film school program, The Sunscreen Film Festival Film School. Sunscreen also offers acting workshops and industry seminars during the run of the festival.
As part of this year’s festivities, there will be a screening of shorts by local filmmakers at 1:00pm on the Sunday, May 3rd. Some of the shorts this year will include:
Chocolate Chip Egg Whites, by Brittany Perkins, which was made through the Sunscreen Film Festival Film School. It is about a chocoholic who decides to run a marathon.
One Last Stand, by University of Tampa senior, Alan Mehanna. It tells the story of an Arab man and an American woman who are placed in a secluded room and must decide whether or not to reset the world.
Focus, by Jesse Newman. This film shows what happens when a young man is driven to stare relentlessly at a brick wall. The man eventually develops a following of those who find purpose in his extreme focus.
A Minute Too Late is a horror/thriller. Creator Cliff Gephart won the award for Best Florida Film last year for his TV pilot “Pawn’d”.
The 4th Sunscreen Film Festival will take place April 29th through May 3rd in St. Petersburg. Check their website www.sunscreenfilmfestival.com for the full schedule and information on special workshops and seminars.
