On Saturday, February 13th, concerned Florida residents and visitors will make their objections to off-shore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico known during Hands Across the Sand, a state wide event.
Hands Across the Sand will take place along Florida’s 2,276 miles of tidal shoreline. Participants will link hands, to symbolically demonstrate love and respect for Florida’s pristine beaches. According to the Hands Across the Sand website, “This movement will be made of people of all walks of life and will cross political affiliations. This movement is not about politics; it is about protection of our shoreline, our tourism, our valuable properties and our way of life.”
There will be several participating locations where crowds will gather throughout Pinellas County, a region that would be strongly affected by the presence of oil rigs looming off shore.

Redington Shores Beach Access County Park, 18200 Gulf Blvd.

Upham Beach to the Pinellas County Park at 4278 Gulf Blvd.
Participants will link hands from 1:30 to 1:45. To participate, arrive at 1:00 p.m.
