Clearwater Gas System Lowers Natural Gas Rates - - 63% Savings Over Electricity
CLEARWATER, FL (March 3, 2009) - Clearwater Gas System has announced a further reduction in residential natural gas rates effective with March 1, 2009 bills. This reduction from $1.75 to $1.58 per therm means that a typical residential natural gas appliance will operate at a 63% savings versus its electric counterpart.
Natural gas prices continue to decline during February despite some very cold weather across the country. As a result, the market price of natural gas decreased significantly, and Clearwater Gas System is passing those projected savings onto our customers.
Customers may also qualify for additional energy assistance by applying to the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). LIHEAP provides energy assistance to low-income individuals and families who meet the program's eligibility requirements. Pinellas residents may contact the Urban League at (727) 327-0977 and Pasco residents may contact Mid Florida Community Services in New Port Richey at (727) 845-7350 to apply for assistance.
Homeowners who wish to convert from electric to natural gas energy are also eligible to receive up to $1,000 in energy incentives for such uses as water heating, pool/spa heating, home heating, cooking and clothes drying.
In addition to saving money, you can take a positive step to help save the environment as well. Consider this, when one household uses a natural gas water heater (vs. non-gas), it reduces 3,000 pounds of carbon from the atmosphere. Homeowners are encouraged to contact Clearwater Gas System at (727) 298-3540 for additional information or visit www.clearwatergas.com.
