FL State Fair 2009TAMPA, FL. - December 9, 2008.  Tampa has played host to professional football's big game before.  But this year, football's super event will be followed by a perennial fan favorite that's sure to be exciting  when it kicks off.  And it's always in Tampa, and always in February.

It's the 105th Florida State Fair.  Opening day is Thursday, February 5 and the fun and games run through Monday, February 16, 2009.  And this year, in keeping with the feeding frenzy that a super football game date brings to the Tampa Bay area, the theme of the 2009 Florida State Fair is Touchdown, Tampa Bay.

"Football, unlike any other sport, is arguably an American way of life, especially here in Florida, a state responsible for sending phenomenal talent to playing on Saturday and Sunday.  We thought the theme would be a perfect backdrop for the Fair," said Fair marketing director Vince Caruso. "Plus, I don't know of any annual event with more fun for the whole family for about the cost of a hot dog and a drink at any pro football game," added Caruso.

The logo and theme were developed by Wilson Media & Advertising, the St. Petersburg ad agency responsible for last year's theme and advertising and public relations campaign that helped the Fair become the 4th highest attended fair in recent history.  In 2008, more than 490,000 people attended the Florida State Fair.

The 2009 Florida State Fair will be holding a casting call for dancers and singers who can also dance, along with celebrity impersonators to perform on stage at the upcoming 2009 Florida State Fair in a show that celebrates memorable half-time performances by some of the world's biggest stars.  Four Star Entertainment, Inc., whose clients include The Tropicana Casino, Lady Luck Casino and Six Flags Amusement Parks will be holding open auditions for Blitz! - A Tribute to Halftime Shows which will be one of the headline acts at the 2009 Florida State Fair.  Blitz! follows in the tradition of Glitz! - A Las Vegas Revue, which debuted at the 2008 Fair and played to standing-room only crowds.

Auditions will be held in the Florida Center at the Florida State Fairgrounds on Saturday, December 13, 2008.  Performers should enter via the Orient Road entrance to the Florida State Fairgrounds.

Registration for dancers starts at 10 a.m. with auditions at 11 a.m.  All dancers must be prepared to stay until 3 p.m.  Four Star Entertainment is looking for Las Vegas showgirl style dancers who are trained in jazz and tap and comfortable performing in theater heels.  While there is no height requirement, it is preferred that dancers be at least 5'6".

Registration for singers begins at 2 p.m. with auditions starting at 3 p.m.  Auditions will be held in order of registration.  Singers should have 2 selections prepared.  You may be asked to stay and sight sing.  SINGING IS A MUST!  ABSOLUTELY NO LIP SYNCING.  Singers should bring tracks on CD.  Tracks should not have lead vocals.  Contract amounts will be based on talent and experience.  IMPERSONATORS: If you impersonate an artist who has performed in a half-time show, please send photo and performance promotional material PRIOR TO YOUR AUDITION to:

Bill Haggett, president and CEO of Four Star Entertainment, says the open auditions often jumpstart the careers of undiscovered or up-and-coming talent.  He adds that it is a huge opportunity for someone looking to break into the entertainment industry. And the Florida State Fair could be just their first big show. State fair officials expect more than 500,000 attendees at the 2009 Florida State Fair.

"With this year's theme being Touchdown, Tampa Bay, and Tampa playing host to the biggest pro football game of the year, we thought attendees would enjoy seeing some of those famous half-time shows in person instead of on a television," said Haggett.  Haggett conceived and produced last year's Vegas-style revue Glitz!, to standing-room only audiences at the 2008 Florida State Fair.

Glitz II - The Blitz! A Tribute to Half-time Shows will run on select days at the Florida State Fair with rehearsals starting the second week of January.  Contract amounts will be based on talent and experience.

The 105th annual Florida State Fair will take place on February 5-16, 2009.  The Florida State Fair, always in Tampa and always in February, is organized by the Florida State Fair Authority under the leadership of Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.  Agriculture Commissioner Charles H. Bronson leads the Fair Authority, which oversees the Florida State Fairgrounds and the annual Florida State Fair.
