In addition to the performances one might expect in a traditional poetry slam, the team slam has the added dimension of group pieces. Audience members should be prepared to see up to five people on stage at once in a single performance of a poetic work. This event is open to the public and is happening at 8 pm.
The monthly open mic and poetry slam competition, hosted by Reggie Eldridge and David "DeTyme" Tolliver, has played to standing-room-only crowds at the independently owned Sacred Grounds Coffeehouse on Busch Blvd. The storied stage at Sacred Sounds has already been graced by performers from around the nation, from local first-timers to world-renowned spoken word artists, from soul singers to comedians. The show boasts a crowd as eclectic and diverse as you would find anywhere, with a vibrant energy that simply must be felt to be understood.
Since its inauguration in August 2009, Sacred Sounds Saturdays (SSS) has been a staple of the Tampa Bay Arts and Culture Scene. SSS presents an opportunity for diverse collection of youthful minds to share ideas and contribute constructively to the growing Tampa community. They have worked with local community awareness groups, breaking away from their typical format. SSS welcomes everyone, all styles and all walks of life each and every month.
