Poets for Human Rights Announce Two Poetry Contests to Honor Declaration of Human Rights

Universal Declaration of Human RightsThe issue of Human Rights has grown since the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights was written by Eleanor Roosevelt on December 10, 1948.

To highlight the importance of the significance of this issue, Poets for Human Rights is issuing a call for entries for their two contests.

 

The 4th Annual Anita McAndrews Award Poetry Contest

Anita McAndrews, was not only an author and poet, journalist, artist and Clearwater Beach resident, but also a supporter of writers and artists. In 2006, her seven children established this award to commemorate her efforts as a human rights advocate which epitomizes the spirit of Poets for Human Rights. 


Theme: Human Rights
First Prize: $200
Reading Fee: $2 per poem. Make checks payable to Stazja McFadyen.
Deadline for Submissions: November 1, 2009
The winner will be announced during the International Poets for Human Rights awards event, December 12, 2009. 

Send reading fee and two copies of each entry, one with your name and contact information, and one copy without name.

The 4th Annual Alexander Popoff Youth Award Poetry Contest

Theme: Inspired by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
First Prize: $100

The winning poem will be announced on Dec. 12, 2009 at Poets For Human Rights' annual awards event, in Clearwater, Florida.
