Grand Opening Of Winter Wonderland (6:30PM - 11:59PM)
GRAND OPENING of WINTER WONDERLAND

16th Annual Christmas Festival brings Winter Fantasy to Sunny Clearwater

Traveling south on Fort Harrison, directly across the street from Checkers and just as you are about to cross Drew Street, you will come upon a sight unusual to sunny Florida. It's that time of year when a small winter village begins to appear building by building in downtown Clearwater. The snow arrives with dozens of Christmas trees, then thousands and thousands of lights, and then, before you know it – children are sitting on Santa's knee and decorating cookies with Mrs. Claus. There is a playground with swings and a fort to explore. A bouncy house and giant slide are always filled with children. Pony rides and a petting zoo create an even more delightful experience. On the large and decorated stage, there is also constant entertainment with ballet and circus acts, singers, dancers, animal shows, school performances and karaoke. Visitors of all ages wander around this special Christmas village in awe of the decorations and all the wintry details.

On December 5th 2008 at 6:30 p.m., the Grand Opening of Clearwater's own, Winter Wonderland, heralds in 17 days of family activities. Every weekday until December 21st, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and weekdays from 4:00 – 9:00 p.m., families will be entertained and the funds, toys and food raised at the site will also ensure that hundreds of needy families enjoy Christmas.

Admission to Winter Wonderland is free but visitors are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy or gift, canned or boxed food or a donation that can be deposited in any of the boxes displayed on the site. Pony rides are two dollars and the Bouncy House and Giant Slides are each a dollar. This year, fifty percent of cash donations will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central and Northern Florida, a group that grants wishes to children with life threatening illnesses.

Winter Wonderland is funded, planned, built and manned by volunteers from the Clearwater Community Volunteers and is co-sponsored by the Church of Scientology. The sponsor board at the entrance to Winter Wonderland lists all of the companies or individuals that support Winter Wonderland with donations of a least $1,000.00
