Hands Across the Sand will take place along Florida’s 2,276 miles of tidal shoreline. Participants will link hands, to symbolically demonstrate love and respect for Florida’s pristine beaches. According to the Hands Across the Sand website, “This movement will be made of people of all walks of life and will cross political affiliations. This movement is not about politics; it is about protection of our shoreline, our tourism, our valuable properties and our way of life.” There will be several participating locations where crowds will gather throughout Pinellas County, a region that would be strongly affected by the presence of oil rigs looming off shore.
Participants will link hands from 1:30 to 1:45. To participate, arrive at 1:00 p.m. For more information about Hands Across the Sand, visit www.handsacrossthesand.org. |
