Tampa Bay To Host US Business Hall of Fame 2009

Junior AchievementTAMPA BAY TO HOST U.S. BUSINESS HALL OF FAME 2009 Laureates announced – Outback Steakhouse and Publix Super Markets Founders to be honored

Tampa, FL December 18, 2008. – Junior Achievement today announced four laureates who will be inducted into the U.S. Business Hall of Fame on March 5, 2009, at a black-tie gala at the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel. The 2009 laureates were selected by a committee comprised of JA Worldwide directors and previous inductees of the U.S. Business Hall of Fame. Criteria for induction include business excellence, courageous thinking and actions, vision and innovation, inspiring leadership, and philanthropy.

The 2009 U.S. Business Hall of Fame laureates include:

• Tim Gannon, Bob Basham and Chris Sullivan; founders, Outback Steakhouse and OSI Restaurant Partners,  LLC
• George W. Jenkins (1907-1996), founder, Publix Super Markets
• Edward E. Whitacre Jr., chairman emeritus, AT&T
• Steve Case, founder, America Online, Inc.; chairman, The Case Foundation

Pam Muma, co-chair of the host committee along with Gus Stavros, noted, “These laureates epitomize the entrepreneurial spirit while providing positive role models for the young people who would walk in their footsteps. We are particularly pleased this year to induct representatives from two Tampa Bay area based businesses.”

The U.S. Business Hall of Fame, which supports over 9 million students throughout the world including 65,000 Tampa Bay area students, is being presented by Pamela and Leslie Muma, Frances and Gus Stavros and Publix Super Markets Charities.  Sponsors include Bank of America, Bright House Networks, Catalina Marketing Charitable Foundation, Outback Steakhouse, Raymond James Financial, St. Petersburg Times and Sykes. Host Committee members include; Paul Avery, Judy Genshaft, Mayor Pam Iorio, Tom James, John Ramil, Mike Robertson and Chuck Sykes.
