Sunscreen Film Festival Sunscreen Film Festival - Grab Your Camcorder and Become a Filmmaker

Clearwater FL, December 12, 2008 - The Sunscreen Film Festival Film School has announced a brand new program for new and existing film makers. It will cover the process of making a film from concept to public screening.

"Technology is democratizing film making," said Tony Armer, director of the Festival. "Anyone with an off-the-shelf video camera and a PC editing program can come up with a pretty entertaining film. Just look at YouTube. We want to help people learn and enjoy the collaborative art of making films."

Armer added that the course is available to all. No prior experience is necessar. Additionally, it's geared to use equipment readily available to anyone at reasonable prices.

The project will span nearly four months and will include a boot camp style introduction to film producing and screen writing followed by a  production session that will include line production, auditioning, assigning crew, camera positioning and lighting. Sessions will be held January through April one Saturday per month and two Saturdays in March.

In the third phase participants will actually shoot the film. In the fourth, they will edit their work. Finally, each of the films will be shown at a special screening during the Sunscreen Film Festival April 29 through May 3.

The curriculum was designed by Dave DeBorde and Tom Garrett. DeBorde, professor of cinematic arts at Southeastern University, will supervise the project and teach three of the sessions. Garrett, assistant professor of communication at the University of Tampa will serve as advisor. Two  ther industry professionals will lead classes in cinematography and film editing.

The first class will meet January 7 at the Reeves Theater at the University of Tampa.

The cost of the entire course is $299.00 for non-member; $100.00 for members who have purchased a $150.00 Sunscreen Film Festival membership.
