The Gasparilla Children's Parade will Take Place on January 23rd On January 23rd, the Children’s Gasparilla Extravaganza will provide alcohol-free family friendly entertainment and celebrate the return of Gasparilla in Tampa Bay. The event will take place on Bayshore Blvd. in Tampa the week before the Gasparilla Pirate Fest, held in the same location on January 31st.

Beginning at 11:00 a.m., there will be vendors and children’s activities along Bayshore Blvd., stretching from Bay to Bay to Watrous/Orleans Avenues.

A Bicycle Safety Rodeo presented by the Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee of Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office will be held from 11:00 to 2:00 p.m. The Bicycle Rodeo is intended to teach children about bicycle safety. Brand new bicycle helmets will be given out free to participating children.

The Gasparilla Preschooler’s Stroll will give children under five the chance to display their best pirate attire as they strut along a ½ mile stretch beginning at Bay to Bay Blvd. The parade begins at 2:00 p.m.

The Gasparilla Air Invasion will take place at 3:00 p.m, which includes a precision parachute jump from the United States Special Operations Command Jump Team.

The Children’s Gasparilla Parade will take place after the air invasion at 3:30 p.m., and will last until 6:00 p.m. Beginning on Bay to Bay and Bayshore, the parade uses part of the same route as the Gasparilla Parade of the Pirates on the 31st, and will include displays from krewes, marching bands, dance units, schools and community organizations. While the parade is free, reserved parade seating is available for $16.00 per person on the Children’s Gasparilla Extravaganza website.

The evening will round out with a “Piratechnic” Extravaganza beginning at 7:00 p.m. The imaginary sea battle between the pirates of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla and the City of Tampa will be re-created in one of the largest firework presentations in the country. The “Piratechnic” Extravaganza will also be broadcast live on WTVT Channel 13, and will last approximately 23 minutes.
